The World
The Odyssey is the epic of return: a hero and his men, adrift too long, must cross unknown seas, face mythical creatures and outsmart traps to reach home. Each patrol becomes a Greek crew — with their ship's name, ancient mariner costumes and a bond forged through every trial.
Shaping the Camp
Each patrol = one crew, one ship name, one destination island.
The camp unfolds as 'sea legs': each day is a stopover (Isle of the Cyclops, Circe's island, the Sirens' passage…).
A collective ship's log kept by each crew records the camp's great moments.
Leaders play the gods of Olympus and trigger scripted events.
Activity & Evening Ideas
**Navigation grand game**: compass bearings, maritime orienteering with 'islands' to reach.
**Cyclops trial**: cross an area blindfolded guided only by your teammates.
**Sirens' evening**: each crew composes a sea shanty.
**Raft building**: engineering, teamwork and strength.
**Night watch**: patrols take turns guarding the camp.
Going Further
Homeric epics in youth editions, Greek vase paintings as costume inspiration, ancient Mediterranean maps.
